Free Walking Tour starts 17 June 2017! Save the date!

Visiting any foreign city is really exciting. Gosh, there are so much to do. You just can’t choose what is better to do! Do you take a walking tour, or take a taxi or bus? If there are boats or canals in the city, how do you visit them?

When visiting Rotterdam, it can be very overwhelming. There are so much to see and do. The city is based in South Holland, in the Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt river delta at the North Sea. The city was established in 1340 and is today one of Europe’s largest port cities.

Unfortunately during the Second World War Blitzkrieg, the city was almost completely destroyed. Today, it offers the mixture between pre and post war architecture. The best part of doing a walking tour in Rotterdam is, that you can see all these differences nice close and personal.

There are so much to see when you a walking tour in Rotterdam. Let’s discuss the benefits of doing a great walking tour:

  • Depending on the company you use, it is usually tip based. Thus you determine your own costs.
  • It lasts about 2hours.
  • You can’t get stuck in traffic.
  • You can get free stuff like a tasting of Bitterballen.
  • There are various times you can join.
  • You visit places such as a shipping canal, the Rotterdamse Schie.

Highlights include:

  • The Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie (VOC), the Dutch East India Company.
  • The Witte Huis
  • Liveable city centre
  • The pre and post war buildings, as well as the story behind what happened during the war.

The negative aspects of a walking tour is actually not very long

  • You will walk about 5km.
  • You might need an umbrella

That is all the negative aspects I encountered when I did my first walking tour.

I did a Free Walking Amsterdam with a Tim. It was so much fun. Luckily they are starting their same type of tour in Rotterdam on 17 June 2017. How exciting is that! It is definitely a must do when you visit the great city of Rotterdam.
