Experiencing the Dutch way of life can only be made complete by getting a feel of their nightlife. If you’re the type who would want to immerse yourself with experiences that stay true to their nature, then you may have probably thought about this every time you visit a new place, where do the locals go? For drinks, for food, for chill outs…

Here are five of the most Dutch frequented bars/pubs/restaurants in Rotterdam:

1.Bird

Strategically located under the old Hofbogen, Bird was initially promised to bring forth the jazz scene to Rotterdam. Thanks to its dynamic crowd, the place have also explored other levels of the musical spectrum such as electronica, hip-hop, RnB, funk, etc attracting a much bigger crowd. They sometimes offer live music, spoken poetry, or film showing depending on the time of the week. We urge you to check out their Instagram page for their daily event schedule to know what you’ll be in for.

It’s a great place to have dinner (their pizza selection is phenomenal), to kick it back with a drink. And when you’re feeling a bit extra, stick around until late night because this place can transform to a wild night out real quick.

2. Locus Publicus

If you haven’t been to a brown cafe or bruin cafe as the Dutch call it, then Locus Publicus is a good way to familiarize yourself with it. A brown cafe dates back to 1600’s and traditionally has a laid-back atmosphere with mahogany/tanned wooden interior and nicotine-stained walls. This bruin cafe is all that and more– offering 12 beers on tap and over 300 bottled beer in their cellar. Perfect a night of beer-tasting. Ask the barkeep to suggest a beer according to what you feel like drinking and be in for a treat!

Dutch people are well known across the globe when it comes to brewing beer and this bar doesn’t fall short in amazing anybody with its beer infused with international flavors.

This bar is notorious in Rotterdam not only for its excellent beer selection but also for its chilled out atmosphere with an occasional live band set-up. Sample their beer either on tap or in a bottle, maybe even ask the bar man to help you pick from blonde, dark and red brews. Did we mention they also got a superb view?

4.  Café De Witte Aap

Hailed as the best bar in the world once in 2010 by Lonely Planet, this bar is one to get seriously jam-packed by thirsty young locals. An after-work go-to by people, it is the most famous bar along the hip Witte de Withstraat. It’s a great place to go on weekdays and especially on weekends. Oh, did we mention they also have a great beer on tap selection? Yes.

5. De Après Skihut

Located on Stadhuisplein, in the city center area, De Skihut is where most Dutch people end up convening for an after party. Prepare for a crazy Dutch crowd clad in ski suits (just cause!). Don’t expect the music to be the hippest since they play the traditional party music but definitely expect it to get everyone drinking, dancing, and singing. A wild night that will be one for the books.
